There's such a beautiful thing called Acronis True Image - with it you can actually make HARD DRIVE images. You install Windows clean, install all needed programs and make an image. The program makes a boot CD if your system is unavailable. Then, do whatever you want with the system. When it goes all crap, you insert the boot CD and restore your C or D drive image (depends on where you've installed Windows). It takes max 20 minutes to restore the image, and you get a clean system. No formats needed.

I know you can repair your PC without formatting it, I did it many times. Just read this page it will guide you through repairing your PC. This process will let you repair your system files that are invalid/corrupt in the C:(since most PC's have that drive letter as default) drive. It's also good to have a boot CD, I lost one that had Linux OS on it. Anyways, I got one with Ubuntu now instead, lol. With that you can repair files aswell, I did once when my AVG went corrupt. I reverted to the old files and the PC worked again. I had a blue screen of death and I fixed it on the same day.

Another good way to repair the PC epicly is by using the system file checker. It will check your critical system files if they're okay or not, and repair them if they are not okay.

Here's the page for that, good luck in the repair man. I've done it a few times, but not so often. I've survived all kinds of viruses, not bragging but it's like that.

Formatting the PC would be the best way to have a clean system but if you use these steps about system repair you will not lose any important data on your PC. It works for me.

Have you tried disabling the 'restart on stop-error' option, so you could actually read the error code and then Google it when you see the BSOD?

Well, that's good. Oh.. and remember - NEVER ask Microsoft for help!

Even if you do, they won't help
