old RDIMM vs. UDIMM

Hi all,

I'm busy putting together a rack-server for some friends that are going to be using it for some serious mathematical calculations. I was wondering which type of memory I should use. UDIMM seems to appeal to me greatly because of it's good price and great speed, but I'm worried the two slots available for the RAM will not be able to hold all of the data that will be streamed through it constantly for some time. RDIMM is slightly mroe expensive and has a larger latency, but it can easily accomodate the data. Any words of advice and*/or extra tips/info about the two RAM types?

Thanks,
Danny

I think you didn't quite catch my drift.

It's not being used for games, it's being used to calculate amd build mathematical formulae ( that's right, it is actually MAKING the forumlae, hence why I'm worried ).

Go for the one with big capacity. The priciest always wins. I dunno anything about that kinda stuff (math racks), but I would go for the second.
You must also find a motherboard that supports it (RDDIM).

I already have a motherboard that supports both RDIMM and UDIMM ( they gave it too me as it costs a lot of money and I'm not charging them anything at all ), however there are only two slots for each type, and it's not possible to have a stick of each and expect it to run. Anyway, I battling to decide whether to go with DDR3 RDIMM or DDR2 UDIMM, RDIMM being much more expensive but the speed pretty much only like half a millisecond slower than DDR2 UDIMM ( which is the only UDIMM I can get 'round these parts of my country ). Well, either way I am set back on my savings for a new car. I guess I will benefit after all, because they said that once they were done I could have the machine as my own! ( one more computer in my possesion... not a good sign of getting more of my life back! )

EDIT: Just found out why they could afford to give me the machine once they were done, lol. Apparently the mathematics proffesor paid for the whole thing out of his own pocket.
